I-90 Bridge Work
April, 2009
The aging I-90 bridge? Apparently the I-90 bridge is already in need of repair. This affects the bike lane as well. You can check out the info at WSDOT
Iron Horse Trail Tunnels Closed
Feb, 2009
Looks like the state just took a chunk out of my summer activities. All of the tunnels on the Iron Horse Trail between North Bend and Ellensburg will be closed indefinitely due to falling debris. Really? Debris has always been falling in those tunnels. There are so many dangerous places along the trail: steep drop-offs with no protection, falling rock from high up a cliff, rattlesnakes, loose gravel, bears, debris falling in the tunnels. Why all of a sudden is there concern? They say they need $9 million to fix the problem. An article in the Seattle Times says they are requesting Federal Funding. Stimulus?
I may sound like a cynic but this has a tone of creatively looking for ways the government can keep on spending. At the same time someone on the East Coast says no money for bike trails. So who knows what will happen. Unfortunately it means we will have to ride at least part on I-90, maybe entirely. I wonder which is more dangerous?
Snow on the trail
It never snows in Seattle. Dec 31, 2008, I took my first ride since the snow began. There were patches of snow until I got close to Woodinviile. Here is a pic from my cell phone Snow on the path.
Fall Leaves
Like the first rain or snow, most riders are unaware of the potential danger of wet leaves on the path or roadway.
There are lots of leaves on the ground now. So until they are done falling and someday cleaned up - beware! I've never ended up on my butt because I always slow down and get a firm grip on the handlebars.
